As a much more diligent reader, I try to only read books that really speak to me. Below are the excellent stories for the month of November this year that have peaked my interest.

Additionally any books mentioned below are available for purchase via the affiliate links below!

Evicted by Matthew Desmond

A book that will awaken you to the realities of poverty in America’s 21st century.

This book puts you smack in the middle of Milwaukee, Wisconsin as the observer of eight different families as they struggle to keep a roof over their heads and dignity in their hearts. This book is two sided; it thoroughly and fairly tells about these eight families that pull at your heartstrings while also speaking the truth of the landlords that also pull at your heartstrings merely by “doing their job.” Evicted is an eye opening look at our country and slow degradation of our beautiful American cities while offering hope and resiliency for change!

The Gown by Jennifer Robson

A book for anyone who understand the power of female friendship….or needs to be reminded.

A beautiful story that weaves past and present together and told through the eyes of three compelling women. This book obliges you to recognize the strength and beauty of female friendship even through its trials and hardships. The premise of the book is the hand creation of Queen Elizabeth’s royal wedding gown, but the story behind the women who created the gown lived on for many generations. A personal, universal and timeless story!

Anxious People by Fedrik Backman

If you loved “A Man Called Ove” you will love this book equally.

Fredrik Backman has done it again with his clever story telling about a would-be bank robber who holds eight extremely anxious strangers hostage in an apartment open house. The outlandish premise sets into motion a book whose characters you can’t help but love as they soon become “the worst group of hostages in the world.” An unexpectedly delightful book that surprises and entertains. I loved it!

A Gentleman In Moscow by Amor Towles

“A man must master his circumstances or otherwise by mastered by them.”

Could a quote be any more apropos during this time of a coronavirus pandemic? To understand that quote is to understand the message of this entire book. A Gentleman in Moscow tells the story of Alexander Rostov, a Russian aristocrat sentenced to life imprisonment in Moscow’s Metropol Hotel following the Russian revolution. Alexander’s ability to bring light to what would otherwise be a dark world is absolutely mesmerizing and glorious. This charming story will capture you from the first line and make you reflect on Alexander’s life, and its parallels between his “shelter in place” and our own.

You will fall in love with Alexander and this book!

While enjoying these many books, I also savored a few teas I'd like to share with you all.

The first being: Green Tea with Mint by The Proper Pantry.

The second being: Matcha by Aiya.

I have been needing more caffeine with the dwindling hours of the day. I have thoroughly enjoyed these two teas through the month of November. I hope you enjoy them as well!
