I put down this book at midnight and just had to start writing this post immediately. I started this book after work and became absolutely engrossed through Wood's writing and the beautiful story being told. I brought this book to the gym, had to leave due to my inability to focus on working out, read through dinner (book suffered minor pasta sauce injuries), and stayed up in bed until midnight with a headlamp on to finish this. My husband was thrilled, naturally.
I'm starting to believe that a permanent smile is going to be plastered on my face because of just how thoroughly I enjoyed this story! I honestly do not think I can overstate just how enormously I loved this book.
A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood. Pure magic. Pure wonderment. Pure love and joy.
The book centers around Lou in her hometown of Penlyn, outside of Cornwall, where her eclectic farming family shapes her into an adventurous young woman who longs for something more out of her life. Her oldest sister, Alice, is her best friend and is marrying the town's heartthrob, but Lou does not want any part of that kind of life and she feels disheartened and wrong for feeling this way. The Cardew Estate is across the causeway from Lou's family farm and she routinely spends time reading and eating apples throughout the abandoned mansion, until she is caught trespassing during the summer of her18th birthday. Robert and Caitlin Cardew enter our story and everything changes.
The book has very strong similarities to The Great Gatsby, and in certain respects I would say that there are also similarities to Pride & Prejudice. Two of my most beloved books of all time so there should be no surprise that I completely adore this book now!
I am slightly obsessed with Lou and can identify with a lot of her characteristics, which made the reading even more enjoyable. Her hard headedness, her draw to nature, her passion for reading, her strong familial ties, her desire for adventure. I am always drawn to stories that dive deeper into female relationship so the budding friendship between Caitlin and Lou, as well as the constant love and loyalty between Alice and Lou, was fantastically depicted. And the party scenes?! I cannot. Why do we not have parties like this anymore...such a shame!
I really don't want to give away any of the plot so I'll stop blabbering on about how amazing this book is and just say...you need to read this. Keeping this one on my bookshelf forever!

TEA TEA TEA! Of course I needed large cups of tea to keep me up all night reading this gorgeous story. I chose the Chai Rooibos by yogi, which was warm and sort of a spicy-sweet. I would not say this tea is as bold as more common chai teas but I enjoyed it nonetheless! It is an herbal tea but the sweet aromas really kept me awake and alert, as well as kept me in a winter-y mood.
Happy December everyone and happy reading! Cheers!
