Save Me The Plums: My Gourmet Memoir by Ruth Reichl
I am an avid audio book listener because long walks really help me stay clear headed and focused. I walk at least once every single day and always am listening to an audiobook in one hand, and have a cozy, warm tea in my other hand. Definitely expect to see many more audiobook listens in the future!
My book choice this month is Save Me The Plums: My Gourmet Memoir by Ruth Reichl. I related to this book on so many levels – working mom, writer and editor, and avid cook—albeit my cooking average at best.
Ruth Reichl’s memoir is absolutely delicious! A foody fairy tale that tells the true story of Ruth Reichl’s life-changing decision to stop working as a food critic for the New York Times and become the editor in chief for Gourmet magazine; the magazine she loved since childhood. How Ruth shares her story of balancing her new career along with being an “available” and loving mother and wife is told with hilarity, honesty, and incredible insight. I loved this book because it gave me a glimpse of what the intense and every-changing corporate world of food looks like….and tastes like. Save Me The Plums is a candid and wonderful read!
Part of the delight in this book was the fact that the author, Ruth, was the narrator on Audible, which is where I listened to this memoir. Her voice is fantastic and kept me enthralled in the story. I really appreciated being able to hear the story through the author herself. Being able to listen to listen to stories and books via audiobook makes the experience very different but very enjoyable.
Enjoying this memoir by our Christmas tree this year. How idyllic!

My featured tea this month is a tea I have been enjoying on my long walks outside. It is the Honey Vanilla Chamomile from Celestial. This is an herbal tea and usually my go-to tea for warmth, cozy notes of vanilla, soothing, and usually an extra glob of honey thrown in my tea mug. The vanilla scent always reminds me of the holidays and comforts me during this time.
